Asus Zenfone Live

Key features of Zenfone Live:

  • Real-time glamour: BeautyLive app integrates seamlessly with Facebook, Instagram and YouTube for live-streaming beautification
  • Dual MEMS Microphones: Dual Micro-electrical-mechanical system microphones eliminate background noise and enhance voice pick up whether the backdrop is a busy street, a noisy bar, or the hustle and bustle of a shopping mall
  • Powerful audio: Innovative five-magnet speaker with smart amplifier, DTS Headphone: X featuring 7.1 channel virtual surround

Design

The light weighted 120g Zenfone live sports a 5-inch high definition display along with 2.5d edge curved glass which makes the smartphone look premium. The display gets pretty bright in outdoors, which I feel is one of the best things about this smartphone. Its design is quite similar to the other phones in Zenfone 3 Lineup. The Zenfone Live is available in three different colors Rose Pink, Black and gold.Asus is using plastic as the primary material for the Live so as to reduce the weight of the phone. But some buyers may not like this. The phone has rounded sides and edges that make it comfortable to hold and grip.

Asus Live review

It has Capacitive touch buttons, front-facing selfie camera, selfie flash, proximity sensor and the metal mesh earpiece on the front.Asus has incorporated the capacitive navigation keys at the bottom bezel, but sadly they aren’t back-lit. Hybrid sim tray is on the left, which houses two nano SIM along with a micro sd card. The volume rocker and power/lock key are on the right that offers tactile feedback.

Zendone live

Micro-USB port, a single speaker grill, and a microphone port at the bottom and a 3.5mm audio socket and secondary microphone on the top. At the back, a 13-megapixel camera sits above the single LED flash, and a metallic Asus logo is near the middle.

Performance and Software

The Asus Zenfone Live is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor which is now over four years old. It has a quad-core processor clocked at 1.40 GHz and an Adreno 305 GPU.Zenfone Live is paired with 2 GB of RAM and 16 GB of internal storage(only 10GB is available at the user end, while rest is pre-occupied by the system.) which is expandable through the hybrid SIM slot using a micro SD card.
The lag is noticeable when you are surfing on the browser with about three-to-four tabs open. However, the device doesn’t heat much.
Regarding gaming, users can do moderate gaming on this phone; but users can’t expect high-end gaming from this device as it offers an old Snapdragon processor and two gigs of ram.

The Zenfone Live runs on Android 6.0.1 out of the box a top of Zen UI. Asus did add some useful tweaks here and there. The built-in launcher is extremely customizable, there’s a fairly robust theme engine to play around with, and there are tons of screen gestures to make use of if your heart so desires.

Camera

The Asus Zenfone Live comes with a 13MP rear camera with LED Flash, f/2.0 aperture, and 5P lens. Camera UI is straightforward and neat. It has various modes including Auto, HDR Pro, Beautification, Super Resolution, Children, Low Light, QR Code, Night, Effect, Selfie, Panorama, and Time Lapse. In the settings, you can access camera resolution, image quality Touch shutter, and much more options.

After the on paper stuff, the photos taken from this device have enough details, color accuracy is decent, and close-up shots look good too. Photos shot indoors are average, but the low-light ones tend to show some graininess

On the front side, Zenfone Live has a 5MP front-facing camera with f/2.2 aperture, 1.4 um pixel size, soft LED flash, 82-degree wide-angle lens. The front camera clicks decent selfies and also offers beauty mode that softens the skin and removes the blemishes. The front camera also has a flash, which might come handy during low light condition.

Battery

On the battery front, Asus Zenfone Live packs 2650Mah battery which lasts a day with moderate to heavy usage. The phone has 4G VoLTE support as well. Asus has included many battery modes which can help boost the overall life.It takes 2 hours and 15 mins to completely charge the device which is disappointing on the user end.

Sound

Talking about the Sound Output, ZenFone Live features a powerful speaker with a five-magnet design and metal voice coil to produce loud and clear audio with supreme quality in every scenario. This speaker is powered by a smart amplifier that increases audio resolution and loudness while ensuring that the speaker is not damaged. Speaker is very clear and it is one of my favorite thing about this device.

On the Input side, ZenFone Live has a pair of highly sensitive MEMS microphones that are expertly tuned and precisely positioned to reduce noise. This careful arrangement means that speech pickup is crystal clear, so users are able enjoy live-streamed social-media fun in total clarity.Mic input is so great that even in crowded places like busy street, a noisy bar, or the hustle and bustle of a shopping mall it perform like a premium microphone.

Live Beautification

Live beautification is most unique and advertised feature of Zenfone Live; and it does seem to work as advertised. It is very easy to use, you just have to launch BeautyLive app and set the beauty level between 0-10. Select a live streaming app between Facebook, Instagram and YouTube to start a live stream with the beauty mode on. Live Beautification works perfectly for both the rear and front camera.

The ZenFone Live currently supports live beautification for streaming to Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram.

Verdict

The ZenFone Live is a first of its kind smartphone with Live Beautification feature. Its a good idea which hasnt been implemented very well, as it is running on an old processor.Camera is great and offers some amazing quality and detailing.Sound is one of the brightest side of this smartphone.Battery is above average and can last upto a day on low and moderate users.

This phone is targeted for the Social-generation with great features, but for the performance loving user there are many other devices out there!
